Monitoring

"Last year’s peak is this year’s average"

When it comes to the update rates published by exchanges, current thinking states that ‘last year’s peak is this year’s average’. As a consequence, Fixnetix capture and monitor the update rates received across all the exchanges and persist this information to aid in future capacity planning.

To achieve this, Fixnetix employs both internally developed tools and third party network monitoring tools to ensure the entire network is monitored and reported on correctly. This ensures that every frame can be captured, and any microburst which occurs on the network alerted upon with a time stamp resolution down to 50 micro seconds.

Every tick received by the feed handlers is time stamped to microsecond accuracy, which can be used for iX-Tick™ playback. Additionally when the same information leaves Fixnetix bound for the client’s server, the exit timestamp is also captured and compared in order to alert to any potential switching delays.

All of this information allows us to produce the Metrics and Measures to predict the future bandwidth requirements and upscale accordingly before the service becomes compromised.
